3 Days of Belgium - Day 3 preview
What was the biggest challenge when setting the courses?
The biggest challenge when setting courses is always to offer a competition that is as challenging as possible while taking all the technical rules and requirements into account. I have to admit, though, that on such a beautiful map, this was somewhat easier than usual.
What do you think are the characteristics of good course setting?
First and foremost, the courses must be correct and fair; there should be no lucky controls. The technically most challenging parts of the map should also be used effectively. After all, orienteering is primarily a navigation sport and should not turn into a cross-country race.
Good course setting should also provide plenty of variation in leg lengths, changes of direction and route choices.
How important is choosing the right route on this map?
For the middle and long courses in particular, I have tried to include at least one good route choice on each course. This can make the difference between winning and losing. I therefore wish every participant the best possible route choice based on their own physical and technical abilities. What is the right choice for someone else may not necessarily be the right choice for you.
If you could give the participants one tip before the start, what would it be?
Always stay focused and run with confidence! Especially for the brave participants taking on the Ultimates.
Best of luck!
I wish you all the best of luck and hope you enjoy the beautiful terrain!
